Current annual demand for new employment in IT in Sri Lanka (both public and private sector) is around 10,000 of which about 2500 is for Diplomas holders in IT, another 2500 Higher Diplomas holders in IT and another 5000 Degree holders in IT. BIT provides opportunities for people looking for a career in IT. BIT is a Three Year degree programme which is in operation since October 2000. A Diploma and a Higher Diploma is awarded at the end of Year 1 and Year 2 respectively. Course fee for the degree (all three years) is around SLR 45,000. Academic year begins in October. Next intake is for October 2012. All eligible candidates will be initially enrolled for the diploma programme Year 1 of the degree programme). For those entering from alternate entry qualifications will have to pass a screening test.
