Instructions for Defense

Bring your CPU or Laptop with your developed software installed (you could connect your CPU to one of our monitors). Our plug bases are for square pin plugs and hence you may need to bring a multi-plug to connect a different power cable.

If you need special hardware please bring that as well. We do not provide anything other than a monitor, power connectivity and connection to the internet through our LAN.

You should have fed sufficient number of test data to the system (at least 10 to 15 records in each database table) with the evidence that you had tested the system in the real environment. There is no time to enter data during the demonstration.

Project defense consists of three phases: viva, code modification and dissertation feedback. Viva consists of a presentation (5 minutes), demonstration of the system (15 minutes) and questions & answers (10 minutes). In the code modification phase you should be able to explain any part of the system code and also able to introduce changes to the system (10 to 30 minutes). Dissertation feedback will take 10 to 45 minutes. Complete evaluation process takes about 2 hours plus any addition waiting time for your turn (total of up to two more hours). So please come prepared to stay longer durations.

In each examination phase (30 to 45 minutes) you are not allowed to use a mobile phone or go out of the premises (e.g. toilet/meals).

Bring your BIT ID, original client certificate, original declaration page of the report, and software backups (in CD or pen drive) for use if necessary.

Read the Project Guidelines document IT6103 academic year 2008/2009(available from the BIT website) before coming to the defense.

Project evaluations will be conducted at UCSC, 35, Reid Avenue, Colombo 7 and you have to be present for your defense at the time indicated in the above schedule (this include setting up time).
